Seat Cushion Products

A seat cushion is all about comfort, so if yours is not comfortable, it's totally useless and you should throw it away right now. You probably spend more time in contact with your cushion than any other part of your vehicle, so it's just fitting to make sure that you have the best cushion out there. But what to look for in a cushion? Well, first and foremost, it should be exceptionally comfortable. So comfortable that you'd rather lie inside your vehicle than on the couch at home. It should fit snugly and securely since you don't want it to slip and slide while you're driving. Needless to say, it must be extremely durable and protect your seats from damage as much as cover existing damaged spots, if any. If you want additional features, go for something that's waterproof, so it wouldn't absorb all that nasty sweat and beverage spills. Finally, you should choose something that's very easy to clean and install. Where to get a perfect seat cushion like that? Right here at Auto Parts Warehouse where our extensive collection includes more than 550,000 heavy-duty auto parts and accessories! Bum and backside starting to ache because your old seat cushion is worn thin? Well, before you rush off and get a new one, read through this simple little guide. You're bound to find that a cushion isn't just a cushion, and you can even get a much better cushion than the one you have installed at the moment! Sounds good, doesn't it? Read on-your rump will thank us later.

It has to fit before anything else

Now, before you get all excited, the primary consideration that you have to take into account is whether or not the seat cushion you are getting will actually fit into the seat you have. This is a bit of a tough one as most seat covers and seats are very inflexible. You could, in theory, squeeze any amount of material into them-but that risks damaging your seat cover!
When going for a replacement to your existing cushion, it helps to always use as a reference, the one you already have. This makes it less likely that you would be wrong when you make a purchase. Of course, you could opt for a portable or temporary cushion.

Comforting convenience

The best thing about portable cushions is that they add an extra layer of comfort and even support for your back and behind. There are a staggering number of designs and materials to choose from, so we compiled only the most basic of choices:
  • Soft foam: This is what you could call your standard type of cushion. Essentially a beefier version of a sponge with a much stronger structure overall. The only trouble with soft foam is that the overall integrity degrades over time until it is flat and useless.
  • Inflatables: These are usually the most affordable of the lot. Because they can be deflated for quick transport, they are extremely lightweight and convenient as well. The only downside is that they are very vulnerable to damage. Any sharp objects will deflate them in a hurry.
  • Memory foam: This is top of the line in terms of cushioning and provides the very best in comfort and support. It has a highly unique cell structure that responds to your body's heat and weight-it then moulds itself to the contours of your body. That reduces the pressure points your body is normally subjected to. The downside is that it is way more expensive.

Seat Cushion Switching in Five Simple Steps!

Nothing is more directly related to overall driving comfort than a just-the-right-kind-of-snug seat cushion. When it starts to wear out, however, you immediately feel a touch uncomfortable. Normally, you'd have to go to a shop to have it changed out-this can be costly, given that they often re-upholster for you. Save a bit on the bucks and do the job yourself. It's easy when you have the right tools and all the steps that you need.

Difficulty level: Easy

Stuff you will need:

  • New seat cushion
  • Measuring tape
  • Needle-nosed pliers
  • Measuring tape
Step 1: Measure the dimensions of the current seat-a rough set of numbers for height, length and width will do. This is to help determine if the new cushion you ordered is a perfect fit! Also, be sure to match the shape and the size.
Step 2: Examine your seat cushion to figure out what secures the seat cover to the inner cushion.
*Note* There are many ways that a seat cover is attached-velcro, snaps, or buttons-and some are far easier to remove than others!
Step 3: Remove the seat cover as appropriate-you might to need to use a slotted screwdriver to pry off the cover so do this step very carefully.
*Note* Consult your vehicle's owner's or service manual for specific information about your ride's seats.
Step 4: Remove the existing seat cushion, and insert the new one. Take the time to fit it properly in place-make sure that all the nooks and crannies are filled, and that no cover "bulges" out.
Step 5: Replace all the fasteners that you remove-fasten them tight for secure fitting.
*Note* Repeat the steps above as needed to replace the seat cushions on all of your ride's seats!
